Stella Bokyung Yoon

Praised for her “promising voice with incredible beauty and artistry”, Stella Bokyung Yoon, soprano, is a devoted performer and educator. She has performed various operatic roles including Fiordiligi in Cosi fan Tutte, Blanche de la Force in Dialogues des Carmélites, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel, Mimi and Musetta in La Bohème, Valerie/Violetta in Robert Hatten’s Compassion (world premiere),Violetta in La Traviata, Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly with Austin Opera, Bay Area Summer Opera, Barrier Free Opera, Bulgaria Sofia State Symphony Orchestra, Butler Opera Center, Ezio Pinza Council in Italy, Indiana University Opera, Miami Summer Music Festival, Palm Beach Opera, and Seoul Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Yoon has won numerous prestigious international and national competitions including Sidney Wright international Competition, Barry Alexander International Vocal Competition, Dorothy F. Schmidt International Music Concerto & Aria Competition, N.A.T.S, Korea National Opera Music Competition, Music Chun- chu Publishers Music Competition, Dong-A Music Competition, Go-yang Music Association Music Competition, Dong Yang Il-bo Music Competition, Seoul Symphony Orchestra Music Competition, Nan-Pa Korean Music Competition, and Music Journal Music Competition. Also, she has received several honors including Butler Excellence Award, Merit Scholarship, Soprano Young-ok Shin Award, Trustee Award, and Excellent Performance Award. Recently, Dr. Yoon was nominated for the Faculty Senate Recognization Award for Excellence in Teaching 2022-2024 and received 2022 New Member Award from National Association of Teachers of Singing-Oklahoma Chapter.

Dr. Yoon has performed numerous concerts and recitals world widely in Italy, Germany, Austria, South Korea, Turkey and the United States. She was a soloist in Consulate Houston Young Professionals Concert, Annual Scholarship Awards Banquet Concert, Duo and Duo Recital, Faculty Recital, Gala concert honoring Virginia Zeani, Sonbahar Klasik Müsik Konseri, and Night of French Chanson. Also, she was a soprano soloist in several oratorio works including Messiah by F. Handel, Requiem by Faure, and Kaddish by Lawrence Siegal (World Premier).

Dr. Yoon holds a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Opera Performance from the University of Texas at Austin where she taught as a Graduate Teaching Assistant under the tutelage of Darlene Wiley. Dr. Yoon is a graduate in Voice Performance from Indiana University at Bloomington studied with world- renowned sopranos Virginia Zeani and Carol Vaness, Korea National University of Arts pre-college, Sunhwa Arts High School, and Sunhwa Arts Middle School. Prior to joining the vocal faculty at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Dr. Yoon taught at Austin Community College. Currently, at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Dr. Yoon serves as an Assistant Professor. In addition, Dr. Yoon serves as Artistic Director for Opera Southeastern. ​

Dr. Yoon is an award-winning instructor in voice. Her students continue to win top placements in international/national vocal competitions and are accepted into top-tier college programs and conservatories, and have been awarded roles in Opera/Broadway productions. Dr. Yoon is a member of The National Association of Teachers of Singing (N.A.T.S.), TMEA, OKMEA, and Opera America.
